There are 100 parks in Eugene, and 2,600 acres of open space for visitors to walk, jog and bike in. The Willamette and McKenzie Rivers are the cities water-sports hot-spots, but there are good fishing, boating and camping opportunities just outside of town at Fern Ridge Lake.
The Hult Center for Performing Arts is an impressive complex with several halls for opera, big-name musicians, ballet, local performers and the University Symphony. The 3-day quasi-counter-cultural Oregon State Fair is held in Eugene every year. The Nike Factory Store in downtown Eugene Oregon commemorates the birthplace of Nike with a waffle iron used to make the 1st Nike sole (to clarify: the Factory Store is in Eugene Oregon, the actual factories are still in China, Taiwan and Southeast Asia).
