Annapolis is Maryland’s capitol. It is one of the oldest cities in the country, having been founded by puritans in 1649, and has one of the most distinguished histories of any American city. Annapolis was home to 4 signers of the declaration of independence and its state capital building is the oldest in the country still in continuous legislative use. Annapolis is also the sailing capitol of the United States, with 2,500 craft docked in its harbor. Annapolis is also famous for being the home of the U.S. Naval Academy.

There are many ways to experience the rich history of Annapolis Maryland. Historic Annapolis Carriage Tours and the 3 Century Waling Tour will take visitors to many interesting sites and show off the city’s well preserved 17th and 18th century colonial architecture. The Paca House & Garden Tour showcases the restored mansion and grounds of William Paca, the revolutionary Governor of Maryland and a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Watermark cruises tour the historic waterfront by boat on the 74-ft. schooner Woodwind, and for a little extra guests can spend the night on her too.

Annapolis Maryland has always had an important African-American heritage, and visitors can explore it at the Banneker-Douglass Museum. Visitors to the U.S. Naval Academy should try to catch the noon formation, when 4,000 midshipmen/women go on parade around the plaza.
